This morning, Phillip, Dick & William took the MRT to Aljunied Station. We met Thomas at Penang Seafood Restaurant around 11.40 and ordered a bowl of Penang Assam Laksa each and a plate of medium size Penang Fried Kway Teow to share. The Penang Assam Laksa was pretty lemak and not too sour with a generous topping of hae kor (prawn paste). I liked it although this is not my favourite food. Penang Fried Kway Teow was above average.

After we had finished this first round of food, Richard appeared and he too ordered a bowl of Penang Assam Laksa. As we were only half tank full, for round two, we ordered a plate each of Shrimp Roll, Orange Blossom Ribs, Assam Patong Fish Head and rice to go with the food. We were then 9/10 full. To ensure a full tank, we each down a glass of Ice Lime Juice, and as usual, Milo Kosong for Richard.

Next, we packed into Richard's car and headed for Parkway Parade as he wanted to go HSBC. While the officer attended to him, we waited at the lounge. Thomas ordered coffee and the lady brought us four cups of complimentary coffee and short bread shaped in the bank's logo. Excellent service!

Richard suggested lunching at Singapore Swimming Club today. Phillip fetched myself and Dick and we met Richard at the club around 12.45pm. We had our lunch at The Palms.

Richard and Dick ordered Ayam Penggang Set, Phillip had Curry Chicken with Rice and I had Nasi Goreng Istimewa. Richard also ordered a plate of Sashimi with 16 thick slices to share. The dishes were well prepared and very tasty.

For dessert, Richard and Dick had Ice Chendol, Phillip had Thai Tapioca and I had Ice Jelly with Kalamansi Tea & Sago Pearl. We also made plans to have Penang food next Wednesday @ 76 Geylang Lorong 25A. Sorry Philip! We gonna enjoy our Penang delights before you touch down from Manila @ 5pm.

We left the club around 3.30pm and went to coffeeshop at Blk 69 Bedok South to have Ice Cheng Tng. Plenty of ingredients @ $1.50 a bowl. Chat for another hour before going home.

This morning, Dick fetched Phillip & myself and we met Richard & Thomas at the latter's home. We cleared Malaysian Customs by 11am and had a pleasant one hour drive to Taman Mewah in Senai.

We ordered the above dishes. They were all very well cooked and tasty. The Assam Red Snapper and the Curry Prawns were very fresh. Plus drinks, the total bill was Rm109 (S$45).

After this hearty meal, we drove back to Johore Bahru and went to Bamboo Restaurant in Taman Sentosa. Richard and myself tapau two Emperor Herbal Chicken each, while Thomas bought one. Next, we headed for City Square in town to have coffee and Portuguese Egg Tarts @ Robin's.

Returned back to Singapore by 4.30pm. An foodfull day well spent.

Chicken Rice & Sio Bak Party @ Eric Lim's Place

Eric invited us for lunch at his place on 8th August 2011. Amongst those invited were Gabriel Chan, Ivan Wong, Gerald Gonzales, Joseph Bong, Richard Lim, Dick Lee, Thomas Tan, Phillip Lim and myself.

The chicken rice was good but his sio bak was excellent. The meat was well seasoned & succulent and the skin very crispy.

We had a joyful reunion and shared about the good old school and army days. The conversation got so interesting that it stretched all the way to tea time and we all finally left before dinner time.

We look forward to Eric's next meal of sio bak.

Despite the rain, my makan kaki & I decided to go into JB for lunch. Met outside Kranji MRT Station @ 10.30am and took a bus into Johore Bahru. Took another bus to Pelangi Plaza and strolled up to Grand Paragon Hotel to survey the food served for buffet lunch.

Lots of light and finger food, desserts and ice cream. Not much quality food for main course. This place is good for group interaction and the ambience is excellent. Guests can have a foodfull time from 12 noon to 2.30pm.

Not wanting to spend Rm38++ Less 20% for Senior Citizen, we strolled back to Pelangi Plaza and settled for Indian food @ Restoran E & Y across the road. We helped ourselves to the above dishes. Of course, the Behoon Mee Goreng was individually fried. Ate to our herts' content and the final bill was Rm24.90 (S$10.30).

Few doors away, we saw Crispy Crayfish being sold @ Beetle Bubble Tea. Being curious, we ordered a serve @ Rm5.50 (S$2.20). The crayfish is freshly coated with batter and fried. Chilli powder is sprinkled onto them and served. Crunchy on the outside and the crayfish tasted good.

Made our way back to City Square for ice cream before returning to Singapore.

During the month of Ramadan, there are many food stalls on the service road between the Railway Complex & CIQ. They look very tempting. Can consider buying a meal or two from there.

Richard, Phillip & I was supposed to have chilli crabs at Block 308 Clementi Avenue 4 for lunch. Upon arriving there, we found that this Cze Cha stall is closed and in the process of management change. Too bad!

Plan B was Two Chefs @ Commonwealth Drive is situated in a little coffeeshop. We went there in Richard's car. Ordered Butter Pork Ribs, Cold Cockles & Deep Fried Tofu with Straw Mushrooms. The Butter Pork Ribs (Boneless) is deep fried and coated with cheese powder.

After this hearty meal, we went upstairs to the hawker center next door to have dessert. Richard had Pulut Itam, Phillip had Tou Suan and I had Ice Kachang. All three items are priced at only $1 each.

My makan kaki and I decided to have something spicy for lunch today. We met at Chinatown Complex and was walking around to find some spicy food to tickle our palate. This was the first stall we saw but decided to complete our round of the food center and decide on the best choice.

We came back to Babas Peranakan. The choice of food was appetizing and the owner, Edwin Tan, was a very pleasant middle age man. Image projection is very important too. It helps in getting the patrons to decide.

We ordered an Assam Fish Head ($4), Sambal Goreng ($1.50), Sayur Lemak ($1.50), Fried Onion Omelette ($1) and two plates of rice drowned in sayur lemak & assam curry with sambal blachan. ($0.50 x 2) Quality of the dishes was very tasty. Price, very cheap @ only $9 for the two of us. How to complain???
